Policies & Fees
Iowa Veterinary Specialties is a full service, emergency and specialty hospital providing a broad range of services including emergency, surgery, and exotics. We do not provide preventative or routine services. Preventative and routine care is provided by your daytime/referring veterinarian. For emergency visits, if you are able to call to alert us, please do so, as it allows us to prepare for your pet's arrival. Specialty services such as Surgery and Exotics may be scheduled through your day-time veterinarian. We treat dogs, cats, and some of our doctors will see pocket pets (small mammals such as rabbits and gerbils). We do not treat large (farm) animals or wild animals. All patients seen through our Emergency department are seen on a triage basis (most serious cases first). We are forbidden by law to dispense or prescribe medication without performing a physical exam. Initial emergency visits are $159.50 and estimates will be provided after that point by the attending doctor. Initial Exotics Emergency visits are $179.50. Exotics appointments are $121.55.
We do require a deposit for Surgery & Exotics appointments. (Surgery = $190, Exotics = $121.55) This deposit is refundable as long as the appointment is cancelled at least 48 hours before your scheduled time.
Payment Options
Full payment is due at the time of service. We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover credit cards, Care Credit, ScratchPay, cash and personal checks.
CareCredit
Third Party Financing through Care Credit is available. Special terms will apply to qualifying purchases once you have been approved and have decided on a plan that best fits your needs. Interest will be charged to your account from the purchase date at the APR for purchases if the purchase balance is not paid in full within the promotional terms set by the plan you have chosen. To apply for CareCredit, visit carecredit.com/apply.
ScratchPay
We also offer third-party financing through ScratchPay. Emergencies by nature are not timely and lead to difficult decisions needing to be made. Iowa Veterinary Specialties wants to try to help all pets get the care they need when they need it by giving you options when you need them. Check out Scratchpay, a third party payment option with affordable plans to chose from. Ask a receptionist for details.
